Short Links (vm.tiktok, fb.watch, pin.it): Do They Work?

When you tap "Share" in an app, the link you get is often shortened: vm.tiktok.com/..., fb.watch/..., pin.it/... or lnkd.in/.... Do these work on SeeSaveIt? Usually yes, but here is what to know.

What is a short link?

It is a shorter address that redirects to the real page of the video. Apps create them so sharing is easier in a message or a text. When you open one, your browser is sent automatically to the full address.

Supported short links

• TikTok: vm.tiktok.com/... or vt.tiktok.com/..., instead of tiktok.com/@account/video/....
• Facebook: fb.watch/..., instead of facebook.com/.../videos/....
• Pinterest: pin.it/..., instead of pinterest.com/pin/....
• LinkedIn: lnkd.in/..., instead of linkedin.com/posts/....

For TikTok, Facebook and Pinterest, the short link normally goes through without trouble. For LinkedIn, it often works, but an lnkd.in link is sometimes not recognized: in that case use the method below.

If a short link is rejected

1. Open the link in the browser on your phone or computer.
2. Wait for the video page to show up.
3. Copy the full address from the address bar.
4. Paste it into the tool: TikTok, Facebook or Instagram.

This trick fixes most cases, because the full address directly contains the video's identifier.

A concrete example

A friend sends you a vm.tiktok.com/... link on WhatsApp. You tap it: the TikTok app opens and the video plays, but the address is nowhere to be seen. Go back to the chat, press and hold the message and choose "Copy". Then paste it into the tool's page. If the message also contains text, delete everything before https:// before you validate.

Classic mistakes

• Cut link: some messaging apps truncate a long link. Check that you copied it to the end.
• Extra spaces or text: if you copied "Watch this: https://...", keep only the address.
• Profile link instead of a video link: a link to an account does not point to a specific video. Open the post itself.
• Non-public video: a short link to a private or deleted video leads to an empty page. Read private or deleted video won't download.

Copying the link on a phone

Should you be wary of short links?
