Private or deleted video: why it will not download
You paste a link, press the button and nothing happens, or an error message appears. In many cases this is not a bug: the video simply is not public. Here is how to tell, and what to do.
What SeeSaveIt can download
The tool works with public videos: TikTok, Instagram (Reels and public videos), public Facebook videos, LinkedIn, Pinterest and public Snapchat Spotlight. If a person cannot watch the video without logging in or being invited, the tool will not see it either. It does not bypass any privacy setting, and that is intentional.
The cases where a video is not reachable
- Private account: on Instagram or TikTok, only approved followers see the posts.
- Friends-only video: Facebook and TikTok let creators limit who can watch.
- Deleted video: the creator removed it, or the platform took it down. The link is still in your chat, but the page is empty.
- Stories: stories vanish after a day and are not supported. Read Instagram stories downloader: what works.
- Age- or region-limited content: some videos need a login or do not display in every country.
How to check in 30 seconds
- Open the link in a private browsing window, without being logged in.
- If the video plays, it is public: the problem is elsewhere (incomplete link, connection, platform).
- If you are asked to log in, or you see "content unavailable", the video is not public or no longer exists.
This is the most reliable test because it shows what the tool sees.
If the video is public but still fails
Then the issue is technical. Try these in order:
- Copy the whole link again, with no spaces. See how to copy a video link.
- Use the app's "Copy link" share option, not a truncated address from the address bar.
- Try again in a few minutes: platforms sometimes limit access.
- Switch connection (Wi-Fi or mobile data).
- Read the full list in video download not working: fixes.
What to do about a private video you want
The right step is simple: ask the author. They can send it to you directly, make the post public, or share the original file. If it is your own video, you can get it from your account settings, or make it public temporarily and then download it with the TikTok downloader, the Instagram downloader or the Facebook downloader.
Why we do not bypass privacy
A private video is its author's choice. Downloading it without consent can harm their privacy and rights. No serious tool should promise access to it, and be wary of sites or apps that claim to: they are often used to collect logins or install unwanted software. Never give your password to a download website.
What if you only want the sound?
Same rule: the source must be public. In that case the video to MP3 converter works the same way, with a 192 kbit/s file.
Copyright
Videos belong to their creators. A download for personal use does not allow reposting elsewhere without permission. To learn more, read the French guide on whether downloading online videos is legal. This is not legal advice.
FAQ
Can you download a video from a private account? No, and SeeSaveIt offers no workaround.
The link works in the app but not in the tool, why? In the app you are logged in and maybe a follower; the tool only sees what is public.
Can a deleted video be recovered? Not by the tool. Only its author may still have a copy.
