Download a Facebook video for free (MP4 or MP3)

Published October 23, 2026 · 2 min read

Facebook has no download button for videos posted by other people. If you want to keep a tutorial, a Reel or a clip from a live, the link of the video is all you need.

Which Facebook videos can be saved

  • Public videos posted on pages and public profiles.
  • Public Reels.
  • Public live replays.

Videos from private groups, private profiles or friends-only posts cannot be reached, because they require a Facebook login that this tool does not use.

Step 1: copy the video link

  • Mobile app: tap Share under the video, then Copy link.
  • Computer: click the date or the three dots on the video and copy the link, or copy the address from the browser after opening the video on its own page.

Short links like fb.watch/... work too.

Step 2: paste and download

Open the Facebook video downloader, paste the link and choose your format:

  1. Video MP4 to keep the picture and the sound.
  2. Audio MP3 to keep only the audio (192 kbit/s), useful for talks, interviews or music you are allowed to keep.

Then tap Download. You do not need an account and nothing is installed.

Step 3: open the file

On iPhone, use the Files app and look in Downloads, then Share and Save Video to put it in Photos. On Android, open Files and the Downloads folder. On a computer, check your browser's download folder.

Common problems

  • "Video not found": the video is probably private or was deleted. Open the link in a private window to check.
  • Wrong link: a link to a page or a profile is not a link to a video.
  • Download fails once: try again after a few minutes, or read why a video download fails.

Is it allowed?

Saving a video for personal use, offline, is one thing. Republishing it is another. The video belongs to its author, so ask before sharing it again and always credit the source. Copyright rules differ from one country to another, so when in doubt, do not reuse it.

Other platforms

The same method works for other public videos: TikTok, Instagram and Reddit all follow the same three steps: copy the link, paste it, download.

In short

Copy the link of a public Facebook video, paste it into the downloader, pick MP4 or MP3. If it fails, the video is most likely private.
