Sometimes the picture does not matter: you just want to keep the sound. An interview to listen to on a walk, a podcast excerpt, a talk playing in the background. An MP3 file is far lighter and more practical than a video.
MP4 or MP3: which one?
- MP4: picture and sound. Best for watching the video offline.
- MP3: sound only. A much smaller file, perfect for an interview, a lecture or a podcast.
Extract the MP3 in four steps
- Copy the video link (Share button, then "Copy link").
- Open the right tool: TikTok, LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook or another platform.
- Paste the link, then choose Audio MP3 instead of Video MP4.
- Tap Download. The file lands in your Downloads folder.
On iPhone and Android
Use Safari or Chrome. On iPhone, the MP3 is in the Files app, Downloads folder. You can play it from there or share it to another app.
Good to know
MP3 quality depends on the video's original sound: an already compressed sound cannot be improved. When the video contains speech rather than music, the result is very good for normal listening.
