Twitter is now called X, but the problem is the same: there is no button to save a video. Here is how to get the one from a public post using only its link.
Copy the post link
- On mobile: tap the share icon under the post, then "Copy link".
- On desktop: click the share icon on the post, then "Copy link".
Both x.com/.../status/... and twitter.com/.../status/... links work.
Download the video
Open the Twitter (X) downloader, paste the link and choose Video MP4. Twitter GIFs are really short videos: they download the same way. To keep only the sound, choose Audio MP3.
What does not work
- Protected accounts: their posts are only visible to their followers.
- Deleted posts.
- Links without
/status/: those are profile links, not post links.
Where is the file?
On iPhone: Files app, Downloads folder. On Android: Files app, Downloads. More in video download not working? fixes.
Videos belong to their authors: do not republish them without permission.
