When you try to save a Reddit video by hand, you often end up with a silent clip. The reason: Reddit frequently stores the picture and the sound in two separate files.
Why the sound goes missing
Many Reddit-hosted videos are delivered with separate video and audio tracks that the player assembles while playing. If you grab only the video file, you lose the sound.
The fix: start from the post link
Our tool fetches both tracks and merges them into a single MP4 file when the video has sound.
- Copy the post link (Share, then "Copy link").
reddit.com/r/.../comments/... and redd.it/... links work. - Paste it on the Reddit downloader.
- Choose Video MP4, then Download.
To keep only the sound, choose Audio MP3.
Special cases
- Reddit GIFs are short videos: same method.
- External videos (for example a YouTube link shared in a post) are not hosted by Reddit: the tool does not support them.
- Private communities or those requiring a login are not available.
