An interview, a speech, a live performance: sometimes you only want the sound of a Facebook video, to listen without a screen or keep it with your music. Facebook has no option for that. Here is how to get an MP3 from a public video in a few steps.
Before you start
- Only public videos work. A video from a private group or a restricted profile stays out of reach.
- The MP3 is created at 192 kbit/s, a solid quality for both voice and music.
- No app or sign-up is needed.
Step 1: copy the video link
- On mobile: tap Share under the video, then Copy link.
- On a computer: right-click the post timestamp and copy the link address, or copy the address bar once the video is open.
Links of the form facebook.com/watch, facebook.com/reel and fb.watch are accepted.
Step 2: choose MP3
Open the Facebook video downloader, paste the link, then select Audio MP3 instead of Video MP4. Tap Download and wait a few seconds. If you prefer a page built for audio, use the video to MP3 converter.
Step 3: find the file
The MP3 lands in your device's Downloads folder. On a phone, open the Files app, then Downloads. If you cannot find it, read where to find a downloaded video on iPhone or Android.
To play it in your music app, move the file to the Music folder: some players only scan that folder.
Why the sound is sometimes quiet or distorted
The MP3 reproduces the sound of the original video. If it was filmed in a noisy room or with a distant phone microphone, the result will be the same. A few tips:
- Raise the volume in your player rather than re-encoding the file.
- For a talk or lecture, check whether the organiser publishes an official audio version.
- For music, prefer the artist's official release when there is one.
When it does not work
- Check that the video is public by opening the link in a private window.
- Paste the whole link, with no extra space.
- Try again after a minute: a very long video can take longer.

Respect copyright
The sound of a video belongs to its author, and music is often protected. Keep the MP3 for personal use and do not republish it without permission. You can also read how this works for TikTok to MP3.
